The Amazing Spider Man 2 – DVD Review

A visual and emotive delight for youths across the gender divides as well as for young children entering schools, Mark Webb’s Super-hero blockbuster The Amazing Spider Man 2 storms the cinematic world with aplomb loaded with 3 D action sequels, wholesome fun and riveting performance by the lead characters.

The Amazing Spider Man 2 is the story of Peter Parker, a young man dressed up as a spider, out to save the innocent from scary villain, grappling with the battle that rages within his own self, though yet unaware that the worst is yet to come.
He is beset with ordinary responsibilities, the centric one being detailed – in a mid air recital – as the enquiry into the mysterious circumstances in which death deprived him of his parents.
He nurses too his off-on relationship with sweetheart Gwen [Emma Stone], kindling within the young pair an all-consuming flame of love, a flame that the ghost of Gwen’s disapproving father would like to extinguish.
The Spider Man [Andrew Garfield] may relish the thrilling swings in between the skyscrapers, kiss an eye candy, and during his spectacular Manhattan swoop, while frustrating Aleksei Sytsevich’s [Paul Giamatti] heist may save Max, an employee of Osborn Corporation, but finds his life has too much on the plate.

Subsequent events soon lead him to grapple with newer pressures for a mishap with electric eels transforms Max into villainous Electro [Jamie Fox] who soon assumes more power than the Superman and a mission to threaten lives of New Yorkers.
However, the worst is yet to come.
Interwoven in this main plot is the sub story of the return of Peter’s chum, Harry Osborn[Dane DeHann] coming back not only to inherit his father’s fortunes but also the misfortune of learning that killer disease belongs to him too, a disease whose cure lies in obtaining Spiderman’s blood.
As he horrid realization of his precariousness begins gradually to sink in, Peter realizes that all his enemies are churning out of the Oscorp mill.
Full of sound and fury that do signify a lot, with Aunt Macy [Sally Field] nursing the deep sores wrought by tragedies in the family, and the Parker-Gwen relationship that is as sweet as romantic enlivening the heavy plot of villainous-galore, The Amazing Spider Man 2 may give occasional jolts but doesn’t hinder the growth in strength of the protagonist.

Though one does wish film could be less lengthy, however the computer generated sequences in Times Square are tantalizingly superb.
The here-today-gone-tomorrow nature of girl-boy relationship too has been sensitively portrayed.
In fact it is the lead characters’ chemistry and sweetness that pulls up the film, a fragile script notwithstanding.
Watch it!
The Amazing Spider Man 2 releases in Australian Cinemas on April 17.
