A take on love, life, togetherness, Cupcakes is an exhilaration fueled charming romp, that at the same time scans seriously the topic of gay sex, a topic hitherto locked in the closet.
The short film also toasts with a sensitive nonchalance the current fad of living life, not to pander to societal whims or prudish cravings, but to one’s own fancies.
Sad and depressed Anat Waxman, a Tel Aviv baker, joins the group of friends comprising multi talent mix of singers-on line-journalist-columnist-lawyer, and of course baker for the customary annual get together to watch Eurovision, a song contest.
The group is overjoyed on learning that their catchy tune penned to cheer up the heart broken baker friend becomes the Israeli entry in the prestigious song contest.
With baited breath the audience watches with the group the final fate of the brilliant entry in the over-congested pop-infused scenario of the day.
Cupcakes is real remarkable for the performances of the talented star cast, and masterly directed by Eytan Fox. The interlaced love affair between the school teacher and the media buddy captures attention by its insightful portrayal.
It will show in Hebrew, French (with English sub-titles).
